Agreement to manufacture 25 trucks adds jobs and solidifies company’s OEM reputation

Chandler, Ariz – Aug 19, 2019: ArmorWorks, a defense and security company specializing in innovative survivability and protective technologies, signed a five-year contract to supply the U.S. Air Force (USAF) with 25 Payload Transporter Replacement (PTR) vehicles to transport sensitive nuclear cargo and related equipment. The PTR replaces the aging Payload Transporter III vehicles.

“We’re honored to be chosen to supply the U.S. Air Force with the next generation of these transporters, which demonstrates ArmorWork’s skill and capabilities to provide effective protective vehicles,” said ArmorWorks CEO Brad Pedersen. “We’ve significantly improved upon the legacy design of this platform, increasing safety and protection of the cargo while also making it easier and safer for those responsible for transporting these sensitive payloads.”

Meeting the U.S. Air Force’s stringent requirements and specifications, the nuclear-certified PTR features an armored cab and a blast- and forced entry-resistant cargo containment system to inconspicuously transport nuclear missile cargo in a controlled environment on air-cushioned pallets.

The first vehicle will roll off the assembly line in 2021, with additional vehicles completed every seven weeks thereafter.

In preparation for the work, ArmorWorks is expanding their Chandler, AZ manufacturing facility by 60,000 square feet and will hire around 100 new employees, including engineers, fabricators/welders, quality assurance specialists, and assemblers.

“This contract provides ArmorWorks with the opportunity to expand our technical capabilities from subcomponent design fabricators to a complete vehicle systems integrator,” said Brian Harris, PTR Program Manager at ArmorWorks. “A long-term contract adds a lot of stability and demonstrates that our design, analysis, test, and production capabilities meet the stringent standards of the Air Force, establishing us as a vehicle manufacturer. Of course, additional capacity, staff, and refined processes all serve to benefit our current and future customers as well.”

ArmorWorks originally subcontracted with Northrop Grumman Technical Services (NGTS) in 2012 to develop a prototype PTR when NGTS won the prototype contract with the USAF. The company submitted an independent bid to fully produce the PTR in May 2018.
